American Idol singing week 4

Let's face it we all know that there is one person that I want outta here - Comrade Russian guy.

I'm pretty happy to see where each week takes the rest of them.

Scott Savol started us out with a Big and Tall mans snazzy suit that really looked nice on him. Vocally the judges hated it, except for Paula who is so dipped in sugar that I wanna barf. Scott sang To Dream the Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha. I don't know if I loved it--it was just aight for me. Porky thug.

Constantine sang My Funny Valentine from Babes in Arms. Judges loved him. I still find him smarmy. The first part of his song had technical difficulties so it was hard to tell, but then the engineers must've gotten on the ball and we could finally hear his voice. I love the song and usually hear women sing it badly, so I liked his rendition. The judges seemed to like it though Simon's comment that his pouting rated a 9 made me laugh - yeah, he tries too hard to be sexy for the camera.

Carrie crooned Hello young Lovers from The King & I. Randy said that she was controlled with her voice even though the song was boring. Ha ha. Simon compared her to a 1955 commercial. Lol. They all like her, hated the song. I thought the song style that she picked was a bit old fashioned for her. Doesn't matter, though, she isn't going anywhere - America loves her

Vonzelle - our little personality sleeper- sang People from Funny Girl. She's definitely listening to the coaches and playing up her personality. She's also gotten perky. Normally, I'm no fan of perk - but it works for her. She was good.

Anthony sang Climb Every Mountain from the Sound of Music. Bastard. I'm all ready to hate him and he goes and picks my favorite childhood movie. So I closed my eyes and listened. He wasn't bad if I don't hafta look at him. His voice cracked at the end. Randy hated him-- he heard this week what I've heard all along - up and down, sharp and flat. I disagree this week but I still don't like him. Simon said it was hideous- 'nuff said. Lol

Niko Smith sang One Hand One Heart from my other Childhood favorite West Side Story. The technical problems came back - damn them. He did really well. That's one of the least memorable songs in the musical and he made it interesting. His voice was on. I liked it. Apparent my opinion is kaflooey. Simon didn't agree with me. Randy liked it but wasn't blown away. Paula - you guessed it - loved it.

Next comes Anwar. C'mon, man - step it up or you're on the bottom 3!
He sang If Ever I leave you from Camelot. Simon gave a non-critique. Other two loved it. It seemed like he pushed his voice a little more but otherwise it was more of the same as the past weeks.

Bo Bice sang a song I didn't know: Coming out of the sky from Pippin. He said this was very much not his genre. Why didn't he do a song from Hair? I think he did aight, too. At least his hair was clean! Lol. Randy loved him. Paula babbled - does anyone ever listen to her anymore? Simon hated it.

The evening ended with Nadia singing
As Long As He Needs Me from Oliver. She was all sultry for the camera. Again, I don't know this song. It sounded pretty. And she looked lovely in that dress. All the judges loved her. Good for her.

For the first time my bottom 3 are all men: Scott, Anwar, and the smarmy blond Russian kid, Anthony. (Eww - watched him on the recap - smarm city! He kept touching his white pants)

This has not been my favorit genre and, like Mere, I miss the mansion scenes where you get a tiny glimpse into the contestants. I feel like I'm not vested in any of them.

Where are the muppets???

Okay woman - where the heck have you been? You weren't online for me to chat with during the singing AND you also missed 24 - I can't watch those shows without our running commentary…

Anyway… On to Idol comments.

I was cooking dinner at the beginning so I didn't actually WATCH Scott or Constantine. But I heard them. I didn't really like Scott and Constantine is much better when you just hear him and not watch him. I really liked his version too.

I didn't like Carrie's song choice either. But I liked her singing and I think she'll be around for awhile too.

I'm sorry these people don't know any musicals because there are some REALLY great songs out there from musicals. But I also have to wonder - if like some regular songs - they didn't have approval to sing some of those songs. Especially when Constantine said while chatting with Ryan they couldn't do any more contemporary musicals - or he probably would have done something from Rent since he toured with them.

Vonzelle… I'll tell you why I don't particularly like Vonzelle. She's a good singer. But I'm not a fan of the big ballads by people like Barbra, Whitney, Maria, ad nauseum - And if those are the ONLY songs she is gonna sing - be gone woman.

I know that the Sound of Music is Linda's all time fav… And all I could think was Anthony sounds like he is singing this song with "Up With People" HORRIBLE

I really liked Niko's version of the song from West Side story. I don't remember it either from the play but I enjoyed his alot.

Anwar - i thought it was nice - but he needs to sing an UPBEAT song - geez man… So what if you are technically the best singer. Technical can be precise and cold…

Bo - I love Bo - I think he's a great singer - didn't particularly like this song but I still like Bo - even if you people don't. He has great voice, he has personality on stage, he's enjoyable to watch - he puts on a show instead of just standing there singing. And as for Linda's comment about something from Hair - maybe has something to do with which musicals they could actually use… Who knows.

Nadia - funny thing was at the beginning of the show when they announced the theme I was thinking it wouls be funny if someone sang "Consider Yourself" from Oliver. I don't know why - LOL And here commes Nadia sining something from Oliver. Hated the song. But she sang fabulously and I thought - all those freaks who were voting for Vonzelle because she was singing all those ballads might now see that Nadia could do those too if she wanted and maybe she would steal a few of Vonzelle's supporters.

So that's my take on last nights singing.

Bottom 3 - Anthony, Scott and Anwar. - PLEASE SEND ANTHONY HOME

I was so excited to hear that last night's genre was musicals! I thought what a great opportunity to sing along to some great showtunes. (LOL) I don't know if it was the song choices, the genre or perhaps the restriction of contemporary musicals but it was a real snoozefest.

Scott - sang "Impossible Dream". Loved the song but thought his performance was just okay. Nothing exceptional.

Constantine - UGH! I can't stand to look at the guy. I think compared to Anthony he wins for being the swarmiest. I was so grossed out and distracted by his facial expressions that I didn't hear a note.

Carrie - The judges are playing up her brilliant voice because they fear that she may be the next girl to go. I feel she is in the same boat as Anwar and needs to kick into gear or be gone.

Vonzelle - Sang well, shows personality. I like her.

Anthony - I really think he sings with heart and passion. He may not have Anwar's voice but I think he should have another week.

Nikko - LOVED his rendition of "One Hand One Heart". Of all the male Idols he has continued to impress me.

Anwar - A total improvement from last week's performance. Like, Carrie he needs to show some stage presence/personality.

Bo - I agreed with Simon. 2 consecutive bad performances for him.

Nadia - I actually know the song and liked her rendition of "As Long As He Needs Me". She sang it with a blue-sy, jazzy flair. I was impressed.

My bottom 3 - Constantine (a girl can dream - LOL), Bo and Scott.

Ha ha ha - I agree with the "up with people" comment. That cracked me up.

And SOOOOO true about Constantine. I should have closed my eyes. I guess the reason that I find Anthony smarmier is because at least Constantine was in a rock band to cultivate his (gross) sexiness, but Anthony was probably a deli meat cutter or data entry guy before Idol. Its all just gross.

And guess what? Laurie gets all warm for Constantine. She turns all pink when she talks about him - how funny is that??? Freak

I'd love to comment on the "up with people" remark but I don't know what that means? LOL

Well if Constantine continues to sail through the competition then they should rename the show to the "Gross Factor" or "Swarmy Idol".

Oh, and Laurie needs to get her eyes checked.

Like I said - you need to listen to him without actually watching him and he's pretty good - LOL

And I love the comment about Anthony cultivating his smarminess from behind a deli counter - LOL
