2006 American Idol 5 - The Women

Mandeka (did I get this name right?) this would not be complete without me saying… What were they thinking when they named her??? That aside, she has an awesome voice, I agree, I heard some off notes, but her spunk and cute personality – as well as the rest of the song -made up for it. Her song was Heart. And she gave it soul.

Kelly Pickler – she is adorable, she reminds me of the blond chick that won last year (I forget her name – pregnancy brain). And she is very likable. She sang some Martina McBride song that I don’t know, but I thought she did it well.

Becky O’Donohue – sang Because the Night. It was just aight for me. She sang from the back of her throat and it was kinda creepy. But she is stunning!

Ayla Brown sang some Mulan song. When they said she was gonna sing a Christina Aguilera song, I was like… whoa. But she made it softer and it was good. Mike and I were both impressed. And, look at that, the judges agreed. She’s from Mass. and Mike is rooting for her

Paris Bennet is very cute and very mature for a 17 year old. I liked her song, but with all of Randy’s glowing about her, I expected more. And I didn’t care for all that bouncing. All the same, she is cute and has a very cute personality. Its funny, she's got a speaking voice like Minnie Mouse and sings like a powerhouse.

Stevie Scott – the opera singer. Well, I agree with Randy and Simon, I kinda wandered off mentally. She definitely has a well trained voice, you can totally tell that, but it wasn’t an exciting or interesting voice.

Before she even sings, Brenna Gethers is annoying. I don’t like her personality. Its way too brassy. She wants to show America her softer side so she chose You Are the Sunshine of my Life. Ok, I know I already don’t like her, but I looked away and just listened. And its like she didn’t finish any of the phrases, they all trailed off. She is not taking criticism well and she is way too snarky. Enough of her. Please go away.

Heather Cox - I don't remember her at all. I don't think they gave her much air time during all the preliminary shows. She sang something recorded by some other past Idol winner. I don't know it. She is really beautiful. But the singing was just ok. Is it cuz I didn't know the song? Either way, with the lack of TV coverage, she may not go through because no one's gotten to know her.

Melissa McGhee - She also got no prior airtime. Oh wait... maybe its cuz she auditioned in Denver and we missed that show. Even tho Chenita yelled at me saying, "DENVER! you have to watch that one. Thats where I want to live one day!" I don't know this Faith Hill song. She was good and bad in parts but I think she finished strong. wow, apparently, according to Paula this was a very, very popular song. Go figure. OK, I was right to begin with, she did get no airtime previously.

Lisa Tucker - and I was wrong. I guess we DID watch the Denver show - cuz I remember this girl. Tonight, she sang a Billlie Holiday song that I also didn't know, but she was strong and sulty - especially for a 16 year old. I could see her on Broadway. She is adorable. Wow, she looks just like Mom. They could be sisters.

Kinnick Sky - hmmm - another strange name. I love this song that she picked. I'm not loving the evening gown. I couldn't really hear it that well, as Mike decided to start shredding the mail. LOL. But the judges apparently didn't love it. LOL Mike just said that she looks like she used to be a man. bahahahaha LOL Lol

Katherine McPhee - Mike's friend knows her, we got these emails to support her today. But I remember liking her from the auditions. She looks like a prettier Katie Holmes. She was very sultry, too. I liked her voice.

Oh, hey... just watched the recap... the first girls name was Mandisa. Still bad.

If I were to make a prediction on who gets booted, I'd lean toward the two girls that got no prior airtime to go. But I REALLY want that obnoxious Brenna girl to go. I mean, she's the negativeNY stereotype that people think of when they think of girls from NY, loud, pushy, doesn't care what people think, and so on. Well, at least those arguementative boy twins are gone - they got on my last nerve.

Here is one of my overall observations: all of the past Idol winners (and I count Clay rather than Reuben because he's fallen off the map) have been from the South. Go South!

Mandisa - Great, but won't get far because of her looks - What's the deal with her being known only as Mandisa. Is she the next Madonna or Prince?

Kelly - Liked her alot. Maybe because of her audition. She seems like a real down to earth type of gal.

Becky - "the twin" I thought she was horrible. Yes, she is beautiful and I think that is the only reason she made it through to final 12 (they like how commerical she looks).

Ayla Brown - I thought the same thing "Oh no, Not a Christina song", but she did well. She didn't oversing it she just did her thang. I liked it.

Paris - She was my favorite performance of the night. I absoultely loved the performance from start to finish.

Stevie Scott - She sounded nervous. I didn't like that she was singing in falsetto. I think Josh Grobins (sp?) is such an amazing singer and she did not do his song justice. I hope she sticks around next week so I can see what else she has to offer.

Brenna - NY chick - I hate her. Lin, I find it pretty amusing that you hate her because she is the Milkala of this season. And if I remember correctly you LOVED Milkala. I guess the pregnancy hormones is making you more aware of annoying people.

Heather - The American idol stalker. She was not great, not bad. Like Lin said she may get the boot because of zero air time.

Melissa - Like Simon, a forgettable performance. She also will get the boot because of zero air time.

Lisa Tuckler - I Loved her in her audtion. I thought her performance was ok. Don't get me wrong she definately has an amazing voice and will be around for the long run, but I think I was a little disappointed with her performance. I think I expected more from her, and I wasn't blown away with her performance.

Kinnick Sky - I agree with Mike. She looks like a dude. I think she will go within a couple of weeks

Katherine - I walked away and didn't get to hear her sing. Apparently the judges LOVED her and Simon thought she was the best singer of the night. I cant wait to see her next week because the recap didn't show much so I don't have an opinion on her.

Yeah.......... We have our idol blog back. hehe - Did anyone catch Ladies Figure skating?

re: the Brenna thing. the difference between her that the obnoxious chick from last season is that the old girl was nice and likable. This one doesn't care who she offends or what she says. While the old girl couldn't sing but was at least nice.

PS - you cracked me up on the dude thing.

I've decided not to do anymore work for today and make time for more meaningingful matters (Bashing Idol-Wannabes) LOL!!!!

First up, Mandessa - I like her. She has proven she is not only large but in charge (of Simon, that is)!! She will make top 10.

Kelly "Pick Me" Pickler - Unfortunately, didn't impress me but definitely has great potential. I like her and hope she goes far.

Becky - Beautiful. Hated her song selection. On the fence with her being in the top 10. I found out that Becky and her twin were both on Fear Factor's twin segment as well as calendar girls on some internet site. (They are reality whores)

Ayla - Definitely impressed with her performance. Sidenote: I get the feeling that Paula can't stand her because she has made a couple of comments that Ayla "could do no wrong and that life in general comes too easy for her". Anyone else sense this?

Paris - Loved her performance. I think she was my favorite last night.

Stevie Scott - Opera girl, go home! Either it was nerves or her "classically trained voice" but she could not pull off the song.

Brenna - Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!

Heather - Juanita helped jog my memory of who she was by AI Stalker. I know what she looks like but can't remember what she sang and how she did. Oh well!

Melissa - Another girl, I had a hard time remembering. I remember sorta liking her performance but can't remember what song she performed.

Lisa Tucker - reminds me of a younger version of Tamara Gray. Will definitely go to top 10.

Kinnick - First, her name reminds me of Kinnicky from "Grease" and second, definitely reminds me of a man. She tried to be this powerhouse singer and although she sang well, the judges weren't too impressed.

Katherine McPhee - I really am not seeing what the fuss is all about. I do think she is a "natural" talent (if you can call training with her voice coach mom all her life). I'd like her to be in the top 10 to see more of her to judge completely.

Overall, I agree with Lin, the 2 girls who never had air time may be the ones going home but I do PRAY it's Brenna.

PS - Taylor Hicks is the 29 year old gray haired guy who when he sings looks as if he is channelling Ray Charles.

Okay - here is what I think. Not worth writing about each and every one at this point for me. I liked Paris & Katherine. ABSOLUTELY HATE THE TWIN - has annoyed me the most since the audition. Thats all I have to say about the girls. None of the girls really caught my eye. But that may change.

I switched back and forth between Idol and Olympics. Saw all of the girls then fell asleep on the sofa before Sasha came on - missed her performance - damn!
