American Idol - Week 7

Now that there are fewer, they each get two songs to wow us or disappoint us.

Theme 1: Lieber & Stoller composers of many hit songs.

Anthony opened with Poison Ivy – OUCH, he won the ‘All over the place” award. I completely agreed with Randy’s comments that he started pitchy and sort of picked it up at the end. And I loved that Simon called Paula on her wishy-washy comment to Anthony. I mean at this stage of the game, you have to be GREAT. Its not fair to the others and the ones who got kicked off to be just so-so. So, Paula, take a stand. Have an opinion. Simon (or was it Randy?) said that it was a good thing that he had another song to make up for this one.

Next was On Broadway performed by Scotty the (very large) body. He showed a bit of personality. It was fun and he was good – I think the fear of getting kicked off gave him the oopphfff he needed to give this song some spunk. I agreed with all of the judges (yeah, even the freak of nature, Paula). This was his best performance of the season. On a side note, I loved Simon’s comment that he’s had more escapes than Houdini.

Vonzelle sang Treat me Nice, some old Elvis song I didn’t know. Ouch. I went and cleaned my ears mid-song. Nope, still bad. Then Randy came out and said it was great and she had the best vocals on this song. I agreed with Simon... She was a bit of a mess. He summed up in words what I was thinking. Yeah, she had some great notes, she’s adorable. But thank God for her that she, too has another song.

Bo sang Stand by Me. Lookie dat pot belly! That last button on his shirt is stretched tight. Living in that house with Anthony (who obviously works out) hasn’t rubbed off on him. And the camera man was all over the place. I was getting dizzy. Enuf of dat. He was good. This was a good song for him. He always picks the perfect one for his voice and personality. The judges agreed with me. Paula needs some time off – she’s useless. So far, the best of the night.

Carrie sang Troubled (performed by Elvis). Like the Vonzelle song, I didn’t know this one, but loved her singing it instantly. She made it sassy, fun, a little bit country, a little bit pop. She is fun to watch and listen to. She looked great at the mini-interview where she announced the song. Loved the hair. She is my overall favorite performer.

Next theme: Songs from THIS week’s top 40. (which of course means, last week- since that is when they chose it). What I can’t stand is that when they do contemporary songs, why don’t they let you know what the heck they’re singing!

Anthony sang, Incomplete - Backstreet Boys. Huh? What the hell? Are the Backstreet boys on the top 40 NOW? One note was so off that I physically winced. Randy called it. I was bad. Then they go to Simon and...Simon loved it. Again... Huh? I usually agree with Simon... What happened?

Porky sang some motown song. Everytime You Go Away? Brian McNight. Not my favorite. He wasn’t as bad as Anthony, but (besides the fact that I don’t know this song) it was just aight for me. Randy agreed (maybe its cuz I used his terminology?) Simon was not complimentary, honest but that’s all. Boy, he’s pretty tame tonight, huh?

Vonzelle – came out in a beautiful chocolate brown wrap silk dress. She started strong singing Tell Me That You Love Me by the rest of the American Idols (Season 4), And she ended strong. There were some parts in the middle that weren’t amazing to me. Randy loves everything she does. Simon said it wasn’t a perfect vocal. I agree. Why would you sing that song? Its sorta like saying... “see that song that they wrote for all of us? Well, its mine now. I called dibs on it.”

Bo sang Heaven from Los Lonely Boys. He gave it an edge. It suites his voice. This is one of the songs that improved on the original. Now on to more important things... Did you guys see his hair getting done? HUH? They purposely make his hair look greasy? Did you SEE them greasing it down? Why? Someone `splain!

Carrie sang some song I didn’t know. It sounds like Lori Morgan. God Bless the Broken Road? Must be a country top 40. I have no idea what the song is but she sings like an angel. She looks beautiful to me. That marks the difference between her and the other contestants. She is flawless every time.

My strongest of the night were Carrie and Bo, the weakest was Anthony and Vonzelle this week . Which leaves Scott in the middle. I don’t think Vonzelle deserves to get the boot, and I don’t think, at this juncture, people should be voting by one week’s performance. The two that deserve to be in the hotseat are Scott and Anthony with Anthony leaving.

Lin, you took the words right out of my mouth. I agree with EVERRYTHING you said. Anthony was horrible in both songs and definitely belong in the bottom 3 tonignt.
Scott pick "On Broadway". It was a great choice for him. I LOVED the part when he sung directly to Simon about how he is not going anywhere anytime soon. Simon chuckled at that and thought it was his best performance. His 2nd song was just alright. I dont think he was as flat as Simon thinks, but I agree his first song was better. Scott shoudl be part of the bottom 3.
As you may know Bo is not my favorite, but last night he was on Fire. His rendition of "Stand by me" and "Heaven" were outstanding and he was by far the best performer of the night.

I didn't get to see or really hear Vonzell first song cuz I was putting the Lil' bugger to bed (Ryan not Anthony - LOL) so from what I heard it was just alright. Her 2nd song was not worthy of a standing ovation from Randy & Paula. I agree with Simon she had some pitchy notes and I agree with you Lin, how dare she sing a song that the AI contestants sung earlier - No thinking outside the box for her this week. Vonzell should also be part of the bottom 3

Carrie, - I am so rooting for her I don't know why. I think by far she has the best vocals, but she looks boring on stage, especially the 2nd song. The Elvis song she picked earlier was fantastic. She showed energy and spunk. I think the thing that troubles me with her is her lack of stage presence. She reminds me of Marie Osmond back in the day with those pearly white teeth that were just a little bucked. When she smiles all you can really see is her upper teeth - where are the bottom?

To reiterate, my bottom 3 are Anthony, Scott and Vonzell

I agree with both Juanita and Linda. Anthony was so off key in both songs even though I love the song Incomplete by the Backstreet Boys.
Scott's hand gestures annoy the hell out of me like he's rapping so annoying does he not know he's singing ballads but I did like his 2nd song choice big fan of Brian McKnight he sang it well.
My favs of the night are Bo & Carrie by far Bo's rendition of Stand by Me was FAB!! and I just love Carrie's angelic voice and she did justice to Elvis's song lots O'Fun to watch.
Vonzelle sings really nice too, I like her song choices but my predictions for bottom three tonite are Scott, Anthony & Vonzelle w/I hate to say it "The Vonz" may be singing goodnight tonite even though Anthony should be gone..

So, last week I wasn't able to comment on the vote off show. And if you haven't guessed already, I was soooooooooo excited to see Constantine get the boot and the look on his face was just priceless. I was on the phone with dear sis and since there is a delay from her satellite I had to hold back my shriek of excitement for 3 WHOLE seconds! LOL I haven't been that giddy since the vote off of Mikalah (aka Fran Drescher).

Now onto this week... I'll begin with the obvious bottom 3: Anthony, Scott and Vonzell.

Lin, for the first time I agreed with everything you said. And although you and Mere already thought Anthony has been the weaker performer from the start, last night's performance should finally put the last nail on the coffin for Anthony (aka Jon Secada). I totally agreed with Randy that Anthony's performances was ok and nothing WOW about it.

Scotty the body DID show SPUNK! I enjoyed both performances and thought it was his best night by far. Song selections was key but I think, I enjoyed it more because he showed that he is a fighter with a lot of heart and determination to try and see another round. I'm crossing my fingers for ya!

Vonzelle looked beautiful! Loved that chocolate brown wrap dress! Didn't really love her performances. I think she has a powerful voice but I definitely agreed with Simon that she was OFF. And I couldn't believe Randy and Paula for giving her "props" on her vocals and the standing O for her second performance. I've heard a lot better from her.

Bo was the MAN last night! He chose 2 awesome songs and performed them great! I loved the fact that he elected not to perform "Stand by Me" with" - you all know what's coming, right?... the mic stand. Finally! I could concentrate on his performance and not be distracted by the mic stand. I thought last night he was the strongest performer of the night.

Oh, and yes Lin I have taken notice to look at his pot belly and greasy hair. And when they showed that bit with the hair stylist doing his hair all I could think about was "eewww she has to touch his greasy hair!" LOL

Carrie sang beautifully both songs but I especially loved her when she performanced "Troubled" by Elvis. I love her voice! Enough said.

Ok, you already know my bottom 3 but I believe it's the end of the road for Anthony tonight however I have a sneaking suspicion it may be The Vonz. I guess we'll know tonight.

PS Don't forget to tune into Primetime Live on Channel 7 10pm. The behind the scene American Idol scandal with Paula. It should be good!!!!

Oh, reading Fla's comments on Scott's hand gestures reminded me that I've wanted to comment on for a long time. Have you noticed how plump his fingers look especially when he tries to clap with one hand and the mic in the other? He has Vienna Sausages for fingers - LOL

I agree, Fla. For some reason, Anthony's been made of teflon, so Vonzelle could go home. If Anthony stays because a bunch of crazies are on Mere's "vote on the baddies" site then there really isn't a point to watching. I hope people don't do that.

Yeah! Scott's got Rob's hands!! They could be hand twins! Lol

OMG - Did anyone read the Us Weekly or People mag in the office? Apparently Paula has an incontinence problem where she pees when she laughs too hard. She says, and I quote, "I should buy stock in Depends."

Ewww.. TMI woman! Her friends apparently try to do silly stuff to make her laugh so she can make a spectical of herself. She's a side show even to her own friends!

Again all I have to say is the same thing as before - this is the order they should dissappear: Anthony, Scott, Vonzelle, Carrie, Bo.
