American Idol - The Final Four
Theme One: Country
Carrie: Sin Wagon, Dixie Chicks
I missed the beginning because we'd just gotten done eating and were doing the dishes. Well, Mike was doing the dishes, but I was supervising. What I did hear (the last part of the song) was great. She was spunky and fun and the genre had to have been picked with her in mind. The reviews were unanimous and Simon summed it up perfectly when he said she was effortless.
Bo Bice: A great day to be alive(?) Travis Tritt
There he goes carrying the mic stand all over the stage. He washed his hair this week (well, at least tonight's show - remains to be seen for tomorrow's show). As for the music, the real reason they're on there... I liked it, it was solid. It didn't blow me away or show tons of personality, but it was solidly good. Randy agrees with me - he's great, but the song wasn't a wow-er. Oh and look... Paula even said something relatively constructive. Simon pulled up with a 'boooring'. He takes criticism well, and when he really enjoys something (like the thought of his gramma pummeling Simon) he has a great expression... like he's REALLY enjoying it. Love that. Its genuine.
Vonzelle: Trisha Yearwood; How do I live without you.
She seemed to really enunciate this song, like she's nervous - jittery. Her voice quality was great, though. It sounds like she sang it slower than Trisha does, maybe that's intentional, but I found myself leaning forward to try to get her to speed up. But... what's with that dress? Its like a bunch of torn rags! And she held on to that mic stand for dear life. I wonder if she was nervous tonight?
Ok, now I feel bad. Paula let it be known...Something's up with her tonight. Something must've happened today. She said that she had a bad day today. And all of them said that she seemed nervous. And she's pouring tears. Awwwww. They even panned to her father (all duded up in a pimp-daddy yellow- yes, yellow - suit). Did you know they even made yellow suits?
Anthony: I'm Already There; Lonestar
He's singing slower than the original, too. I have to say, this is the best I've ever heard him. Can it be? Is he growing on me? Say it ain't so! Randy sounded surprised that he liked it. Paula actually had criticism for him - she wants to see him stretch. I disagree, I think if he stretched he would have failed. And as for Simon, I usually agree with him, but I had no idea where he was going.
Theme Two: Sounds of Philly
written and composed by Gamble & Huff
Carrie: If you don't know me by now
I feel like this was her worst song of the season. And at the point of the song where she sang 'we've both got our own funny moves' -- right before that, she did this weird little neck turn. It was odd. She belted out some parts really well, but it wasn't my favorite. I agree completely with Randy - something about it didn't work for me. Simon was not complimentary at all, but he gave her an 'out' by blaming the band's arrangement. They're obviously gunning for her to be the AI of season 4.
Bo Bice For the love of Money
he pimped out in his shades and suit and... flip flops? He sang this song so naturally. Wow, the crowd went NUTS. Gramma went nuts. Yes, I agree with Paula... this is possibly the best he's done so far. Simon said it was a terrible image, I disagree - I dug it. LOL
Vonzelle: Don't Leave Me This Way
She started shaky again but she's trying to rally back her spunk. She comes across a bit angry -- arrggghhhhh!!!!! says Vonzelle -- maybe that's her attempt at seeming tough. ??? It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite. Randy said that she made up for the first song, that it was excellent. Hmmm. I'm rooting for her. Simon agreed with my earlier comment. He voiced everything I was feeling. Wow. Me and the angry Brit agree completely... scary! Yeah, I thought it was manic as well. I agree - I was afraid what would have happened if the song went longer. I think she was good. Good enough to boot Anthony if people vote on this show only? remains to be seen.
On that note, people better not vote on this show only! The thing is, are there more young swooning girls out there voting for Anthony than there are people voting for Vonzelle? hmmmm.
CHANT PEOPLE!!
Anthony: WHAT??!? he's doing the same song as Carrie - If you don't know me by now
They said that there is a Gamble & Huff song on the radio every 14 minutes. With that many songs, he chose the same one as Carrie??? That's as lame as Vonzelle picking the group song for her own last week. Whazzup wit DAT?
He comes out in ... ouch... bad suit jacket. He did the song better than Carrie, but his voice isn't as nice. He really has to stretch his voice to do the song justice. However, he gave it much more personality than Carrie. The judges liked it, I think. (I was on the phone).
Do you really need to hear who I think should go?
Now that this is done, I figured out that one of the reasons I generally can't blog the night of a show is that I'm generally IMing with Mere during the show. Her computer has the flu so I'm on my own... and guess what, Juanita? I blogged before 8 AM so you can comment your little heart out!
7 Comments:
Its 9am - do you know where Juanita is?
Hahahaha - Juanita - if you are gonna pick on Linda about not blogging before 8am - you sure better be here to post first! LOL
LOVED,, LOVED, LOVED Bo singing "For the Love of Money".
Carrie was awesome on "Sin Wagon"
The rest was okay for me.
Anthony BETTER be the one to go tonight!
I LOVE early morning Blogs - Thanks Lin :)
Carrie - her 1st performance was good - I personally didn't like the song selection. Of all songs she choose a song we've never heard of and I guess that's fine, but it's hard to compare it to the oringinal song/artist. Her performance was good and it showed personality. Carrie's 2nd song choice was slow and it dragged in a couple of places. I personally think she did a good job. I don't think she was all over the place like the judges said. I agree with Simon that the band arrangements sucked. But overall I think Carrie sung the song nicely and she hit 2 amazing notes towards the end.
Bo - I'm telling you Bo is absolutely growing on me. His first song was well done (even if the judges thought it was a little boring). I thought he sang it well. His 2nd song was the best performance of the night. He totally "owned" that song and I agree with you Lin that I actually liked the black suit and flip flop look. Is it just me or is Bo starting to look somewhat attractive lately? Or is he starting to resemble more and more like Jesus Christ?
Vonzell - Her 1st song was ok. She sounded a little pitchy in some areas, but overalll I agree with Randy that she always choose to sing the most difficult song. I felt horrible when she started to cry. It made me want to root for her during her second song. On that note, Vonzell did a great job for the 2nd song. I don't believe Paula's standing ovation was necessary (I think Paula stood up just to comfort her and let her know she did better than the 1st)
Anthony - Something about Anthony is just plain blah to me. The only way I can explain his singing is Monotonous. Anthony always seem to sing recognizable songs and sing it well. However, he is boring. There is no range in his voice and he always sound the same no matter what song he sings. Do any of you understand what I'm trying to say here? On that note, he did 2 good songs and sang it well, but again he is just plain boring and dull to listen to.
With that being said (as Paula loves to say) Anthony should pack his bags tonight. Let's pray
BTW - did anyone think Paula was a tad bit nervous during the her first commentary. She was babbling and couldn't think of anything to say to Carrie during her 1st performance so she threw up her hands and said that Randy said everything she wanted to say - Yeah right, we know Paula LOVES to hear herself talk. And maybe I am just looking into this wayyyyy too much but her comments to Bo were very much in the "We" form. Normally Paula would say "You know how much I love you" she said instead "you know how much "we" love you. I think she is choosing her words very carefully because of the corey clark scandal.
Mere - you beat me to the the button. I started blogging at 8:30am this morning but had to stop and do a little bit of work. LOL.
And as you can tell I had a lot to write about....... I agree that I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED "for the love of money"
FYI ladies,
Chenita, Flavia and I are out of the office tomorrow so even if I blog early morning with the results, we won't be able to respond. (well, I might be able to from my BB, but it may be frowned upon since we're volunteering). Just wanted to let you know.
L
and now for my comments:
Yeah! After all the complaining, one would have thought that Juanita would have hit 'send' at 8:30. But then I read her blog and saw that she wrote a very thorough comment to each singer and song, so that probably took her awhile. You're forgiven. LOL
I sooo agree with the Christ comment. The flip flops probably added to that look as well.
And as for Paula's standing O. I thought the same thing. Cheerleader, sit down.
Very perceptive on the 'we' comment, too.
Overall -- good commenting, woman! LOL
Carrie chooses yet another obscure song that we city slickers never heard of but of course Lin being a true country folk said "It was Sin Wagon by the Dixie Chicks, STUPID!" Ok, maybe she didn't say STUPID but I'm sure she was thinking it. LOL Well, back to Carrie, even though I've never heard of the 1st song, I really liked it. It showed her vocal range as well as her personality. Carrie's 2nd song, was ok. Definitely too slow and boring especially in the beginning. She scored some kudo points (at least, with me) when she hit the high notes at the very end. I thought the judges were pretty harsh saying it was her worst performance. I don't think it was her best but the girl can still sing no matter what the arrangement was like, right Juanita?
Bo's 1st song was good but pretty mellow. I have nothing else to really say about it, so I'll move along to the 2nd song. I think, Bo really nailed the theme song from the apprentice! I thought all the judges loved it and don't seem to recall Simon's comment. What did he nean about the terribe image??? Oh, and now that Lin, has me looking at Bo's gut, I noticed that it was sticking out from under his vest -- eeeewwwww (THANKS Linda)
The Vonz's 1st song How do I live w/o you by Trisha Yearwood started out really slow. It wasn't her best but she pulled through the song and seemed to explode at the very end (in a good way). I felt really terrible for her because she was sooooo emotional for personal reasons and Simon showed that he DOES have a heart and didn't come down on her lackluster performance. I was rooting for Vonz on her 2nd song, it was obvious she was trying so hard to put on a smile and dance. She was determined to put on a better performance and that she did.
Anthony's performances were both good. His 1st song was good and the 2nd song was actually a better fit for him than Carrie's rendition. You gotta admit that time and time again, he has shown that he can handle the songs. He has been consistently NOT great but good. So, even though I like Anthony I think his 15 minutes will end tonight.
City slicker. LOL well, we're gonna inaugurate you to the country come memorial day! lol
and you're welcome on Bo's belly fat. LOL LOL
