Counting down to the finale

Tonight, I'm blogging as I watch the show. They have a guest judge tonight. Clive Davis will be producing the winner's album and he gets a say in tonight's show - well, an aired opinion, anyway - and a choice of one of their three songs.

The second song was artist's choice and the third song was a judges choice.

Vonzelle: Clive Davis's pick "I'll never love this way again" orginally sung by Dionne Warwick (remember our psychic friend of the humongous nostrils?) Her voice was cracking and was all over the place. I didn't love this, and it being the final three, I expected more - better. Clive said that she hit all the right notes. I didn't agree at all. Randy called it. It was a bit pitchy. Paula was really subdued and was actually NOT super sweet - thank God. Controversy suits her! lol Simon said she seemed nervous. Hmm..maybe that's it.

Vonzelle's choice was "Chain of Fools" - she was much better on this one. She had fun, she was adorable. It was her best performance of the night. I was cooking dinner so I missed what the judges said. Did she do this as her audition song? Why, oh, why doesn't Meredith have a computer - she would have looked it up and given us a link to the mpg by now! LOL

Simon's pick for Vonzelle was "On the Radio" by Donna Summer. She seems like a total Donna Summer clone. Good choice. Her dancing around made her voice a bit shaky, and she tends to over enunciate, and her voice was cracking in bits - especially at the end. But she looked adorable.

Bo: "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" by Elton. He did a slow mellow version to start. But who could hear it? The crowd was cheering so loudly. His voice was flawless, hitting every note in a smooth tone. I would so download his tunes. Unlike our not-so dearly departed Anthony. It wasn't an exciting performance but it was solid, good and he did it with his own flair. Clive loved it. Randy said it was 'hot' and basically said that he can sing anything. Paula said it was pure brilliance. and Simon said it was great - REALLY great. He was effusive. That's a first for Simon!.

For HIS choice -- Whoa, Bo has chosen to sing without the band. I didn't get the song name by Badlands What a smart move. His one lone voice as he stands on the dark stage with that one spotlight really showed his voice and made him stand out. No one else has ever done that and only a truly great singer can carry that off. This could push him through to the win. Clive Davis has predicted that they will be making a record together. He was great.

Paula chose "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" by the Stones for our boy Bo. They announced it in his hometown and it looked like he was in court. LOL. He put some classic hillbilly rocker sound to the song. He was good, but, its hard to top his last performace. Hey - I got an idea, maybe he carries that mic around like its barbells to lose that pot belly. ya think? The judges were all in agreement but the audience was screaming so much its hard to hear them. I, again, agreed with Simon, I loved song one and two and the third song was just fluff for me. But solidly good fluff.

Carrie was stuck with Roy Orbison's "Crying" as Clive Davis's choice ::: holding my breath:::: as she started singing, I had no clue how she was gonna be. Whew. It was a slow song but perfect for her voice. As the song crescendoed she stood up with it. I liked that. I like her hair straight and I like her in casual clothes. Clive thought she did a real strong performance and commented that he would have liked to see her push it (in not so many words). Randy said she was hot. Paula actually coined it when she said Carrie was subdued. I agree. Simon said she was a little wooden - possibly due to nerves.

Carrie's choice was "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" by Air Supply. She did a good, solid job. She had a bit harder edge on this song. There was the snarl, the angry look, and of course, the long held note. It was much more engergized than the last song. Overall, I think this was better than the last song. Its hard to come on after Bo did that accapella bit, he really made an impact. But she

...and that leaves Randy to choose a song for Carrie. The final performance was "Man I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania. She sounded a bit flat during the beginning. She had fun with this song. She was perky and cute and Clive loved her. And once again, I agreed with Simon. The first part of the song was so-so but the second was tailor made for her.

And now a joke break by Laurie's little boy Jake: Why did Snow White make the best American Idol judge?
Answer: because she is so fair.

tee hee... nothing like 5 year old's humor.

Now, on to more important matters. Did anyone tape or DVR Idol last night? Meredith's cable went out and she didn't get to watch it. She taped snow. If you or anyone you know has this, please let her know. :) thanks

I'm writing a short commentary today cuz I didn't get to watch all of Idol either. I was traveling back from Bklyn after spending the entire day with Chenita. I managed to see the first performance by all 3, but had to drive home to get Ryan to bed. From what I was able to see I think Bo did a great job with Elton John song. Vonzell was very pitchy and Carrie was just ok. I think hands down Bo should win this competition. He is the only one who is standing out in the competition whereas Vonzell & Carrie are just giving average to good performances each night. I'm exhausted and can't think so I'm gonna stop writing and let Flavia add her thoughts.

OH BTW - The chocalate covered strawberries you guys sent to my sister were YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMY. She is going for a 2nd opinion today so I'll let you know what she decides to do. She is staying with my Mom at least until this weekend for Ryan's B-day then she may go back to her apartment.
