The Men ..er boys

first of all... LOVE watching TV with the DVR. no commercials. ahhhhh

I'm Yolanda Vega and the first boy up is...

Patrick Hall - Oh I remember him from the 2nd round. I liked him. He's singing Come to My Window, its strange hearing a guy sing an Ethridge song. I mean she is so distinct. Not so impressed so far, but maybe he will pick it up. Its hard being first. Poor guy, but it wasn't great to me. And what's up with his 'friend' with the humongous lips??? yikes.

David Radford - the crooner guy. Is this all he's gonna do? I can't imagine how he'll break out when they do themes. He sang Crazy Little Thing Called Love -- eww he does this weird twitching thing on his face. Not a fan of that. LOL he looks exactly like his mom. lol. ooh, Simon's comment was 'spot on' - thats what I didn't like... he seemed to be making fun of his own singing. yeah. thats it!

I don't remember this next guy Bucky Covington - and he's singing some Skynard song that I'm sure I don't know: Simple Man. I like the raspy-ness of his voice. I could see him as a Southern Rocker. I don't know the song so I don't know if he did it well or not, but I liked it. I don't like his speaking voice... its all slurry and mumbly. And to boot, he looks like a rougher, blonder version of a guy I dated for entirely too long.

Will Makar. LOL We thought he said my name is Wilma Carr. bahahahaha. Anyway back to the critique. He's singing Jackson's I Want You Back. Man, so far, I'm not that impressed with the men. I mean, they're much more dynamic than the people in years past, personality-wise, but the singing hasn't bowled me over. I'm afraid I agree with Simon, again. He was fun to watch but he wasn't a great singer.

Jose Penela -- apparently they call him Sway. ooh he's singing Reasons by EW&F. WOW - for me, he knocked it out of the park. DEFINITELY the best guy so far. Far superior to the others. I don't really remember much about him from before, but I sooo disagree with Simon. Wonder if he'll retract when he watches it on TV.

Chris Daughtry - I really liked his alternative twist to things in the previous auditions. He's singing one of those 80's songs Wanted Dead or Alive. I think its one of Mike's bands LOL. I'm surprised. Even though I'd liked him all along, I'm surprised how good he is tonight. I'd say he's my 2nd fave of the night. Finally the men are kickin' in. I hope to see him through to the end.

Next up is the little mousey guy, Kevin Covais, will sing yet another song I don't know, One Last Cry by Brian McKnight. Oh wait, I actually know this one. I think I will like this better when he matures in a few more years. It wasn't horrible, but its like someone's really good little brother singing for us rather than a pre-professional on a stage. But I will say he's much better than the first 4 guys.

Gideon McKinney - he's kinda creepy looking when he smiles. Oh, I think I liked his look better in the earlier auditions - all the extra hair is too much for me. Oh my, he's gonna sing Shout. And he talks like a preacher, over enunciating every syllable like he's delivering a sermon from the pulpit. I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought, what a stupid song choice. But he's pulling it off. Him and his strange look. It works for him. unexpected.
LOL ok Simon said the same thing about his smile!!! lol lol lol

This Elliot guy looks alot like a trashier version of the alternative guy who sang earlier. I thought he said my name is Elliot Yummy. ::snicker:::: its Elliot Yamin. He's singing Stevie Wonder's, If You Really Love Me. The singing is better if I don't watch the TV, so I'm gonna have to watch Mike typing instead of the screen. I like his voice, its really good, but I can't look at him. He's kinda crackhead looking. wow Simon just proclaimed him the best out of 5 seasons. (hey, is that a hickey on his neck?)

Bobby Bennett. He looks retarded from the auditions. I don't remember him at all. At All! Oh my, he's gonna sing Copacabana. You gotta be kidding! I can't watch him either. His wild gesticulating is very distracting -- that and the smarmy look on his face with all the winking. It was a performance all right.

Ace Young looks like a soap star or some hottie actor that Chenita would be chasing through a bar a la Scott Speedman from Felicity or something. LOL. He's doing George Michael's Father Figure. I don't picture him singing that song, I don't know if its ever a good idea to go public with a song you've never done before. But, wow. He's going through. He's the only cute guy in the competition AND he's got a good voice, he nailed that song. And he's got good stage presence - he's all making eyes at the camera and stuff.

and finally...
Taylor Hicks the grey haired man who wobbles around like Ray Charles. He's gonna do Levon from Elton John. I wonder if he's gonna wobble around. He's another one that I like to listen to without looking at. I think he'll pass on through as well. But he does move like a blind man.

Hmmm. now the hard part. If I were to kick off 2 guys, I'd have to say guys #2, 4 or 10. But I'd like to see where #2 takes it, so I'm going with 4 and 10, but 2 could be the following week's kick off easily.

nite, ladies :)

Okay - so again - not going through each and every one. As far as I am concerned the guys are way better than the girls this year. Don't care for any of the girls at this point. Like a few of the guys.

Anyway. Chris Daughtry, Elliot Yamin, Ace Young, & Taylor Hicks. LOVE THEM. They can dump all the women for all I care. I hope the guys sweep them in the end.

Patrick - Liked

David crooner guy - was ok. I thought he kept true to his crooner singing, but didn't like the Elvis impersonations.

Chris - Loved him. One of the best of the night. I agree w/ judges - Great recording voice.

Kevin - Ryan (my adorable son) decided to have a crying fit during this time, so I only heard his performance from earshot. I think he did well. I like him. Go NY!

Gideon - I agree with every word you said Lin. EVERY WORD.

Elliot - Really impressed me. I'm a little taken a back from Simons comment about him being the best "male" out of 5 seasons.

Bobby - Needs to go home. Who goes on National TV and sings Copocabana - Idiot

Ace Young "The hottie" - Loved his performance. He can be my father figure anytime

Taylor - Loved his performance too. I never heard of Levon by Elton John, but he made me a fan of the song

My hat goes off to the guys so far, they are way better than the girls. My Faves are Chris,Elliot, Ace & Taylor

Booted out tonight - Will Makar & Bobby Bennett

I must start by saying HELLLLLLLOOOO MEREDITHHHHHHHHH!!! Minus the sign lol I am so glad you are blogging w/us.. it's so funny you and Juanita agree on the Top 4 -Very cool and I agree w/all that the Guys are far better than the Girls.
Now I will begin my critiquing (is this even a word)of the Idols -
Patrick - Missed most of it do to doorbell ringing and Snowball going into one of her barking fits lol
David "The Crooner" - I think he is adorable (he kinda reminds me of a very young Jordan) (SHUT UP, LIN) lol I enjoy when he sings like Harry Connick but last night was too much of Elvis going on he needs to stick with what he does best and thats Harry Connick, Frankie,Rat Pack type songs...

Chris "Rocker Dude" - LOVE HIM - One of my Fav's of the night and great song pick anything by Bon Jovi is FINE with me...

Kevin - Adorable little Nerdy Kev from Long Island...gotta root for him - he's a New Yorker and has a really nice voice he's got a little lisp thing going on when he sings but they will definitely sharpen up his looks but again he is only 16 so he truly has to grow into a man... but I like him.

Gideon Gideon..- I really love his voice and his personality but that song choice I was like Shout what is he thinking but he pulled it off and Linda I agree w/your whole critiquing of him (there's that Stupid word again)I was literally laughing out loud hysterically...

Elliott - Not a big fan YET, I was kinda distracted when he came out so again I wasn't really paying attention to him ..

Bobby "Fat Boy" - Got To Go Yesterday.. eeeeeewwwww how the H E double hockey sticks did he make it this far, he is by far the worst performer EVER...

Ace - When I hear his name I think Of Ace Buchanan from One Life To Live lol but he is a cutie and the boy can sing.. Go Ace

Taylor - One of my Fav's - Like Juanita I have never heard this song before but I really enjoyed his singing. Yes, I think we all can agree w/Chenita that he must stop channelling Ray Charles..

Jose "Sway" - How can I forget about him anyone who sings Falsetto is #1 to me I absolutely LOVE Earth, Wind & Fire, Stylistics, Jordan Knight (Shut Up Lindaaaaaaaaaa) LOL He sang that song most Amazingly to me...Go Jose Canseco lol

Will Makar - Another Adorable young man lol he is sooooooo cute kinda reminds me of George on Grey's Anaatomy LOVE THAT Show... love his voice in the auditions but that song did his voice no justice but he still pulled it off... Go Cutie...

Flav's out the door like Speed Racer and my top 2 to go home Bobby "Fatboy" Brown, and Bucky ( I can't understand him when he speaks) GoTooGoooooooo..

Juanita, you are on fire, everything you write cracks me up! and as for Flavia...thats ASA Buchanan from the Soaps, not ACE. LOL

Also, how can you say that the men are better when you didn't watch the women? hmmmmmm?

PS- for those who care, Shari came in and said, "I HATED the falsetto guy, I don't like that kind of voice and it was horrible to me - I completely agree with all of Simon's comments."

but of course, you guys know my thoughts. I loved the song and thought he was great.

OMG - I can't stop laughing at Flavia comments - You are Hysterical girl. Did everyone remind you of Jordan Knight? Too funny.....

Lin- I thought that it was Asa and not Ace - LOL . We still love you flavia.

I agree with Mere and Juanita on the male performers having the best shot this season!

Patrick Hall - Never heard of him until last night. According to the judges his performance in Hollywood gave them goose bumps. I couldn't tell by the small clip they showed before he went on. Liked his song selection, his performance was a'ight and he is way too skinny.

David Radford - Cute kid. Initially, liked his performance but later agreed with Simon (Damn, he is so influential! - LOL) Nice tone and voice but don't see him going to far because I don't think he has a lot of range.

Bucky Covington - Was okay. Saw a clip of him earlier in the auditions and remembered liking his voice. I hope last night's performance didn't take him out of the competition because I'd like to see him perform one more time. He is such a southern boy (which I like) but he's not the best speaker of the bunch! (Lin - you dated a guy like him, interesting! - LOL)

Will Makar - Another cutie that chose the wrong song. I don't think he should leave just yet because I like his singing voice. (Sidenote: Juanita and I both agree Will looks like a younger version of Kevin (San Fran) - the guy I use to date)

Jose Penala - I didn't really care for the "all falsetto" version of the song. But was really impressed with the high note! Hope he makes it to Top 10 to hear more of that!

Chris Daughtry - I closed my eyes and seriously thought it was Bon Jovi. He was that good! Chris is one of my favorites! I think of all the guys he will be the most successful. He is cute and has an awesome voice.

Kevin "The kid next door" Covais - I don't think he stands close to any of the guys vocally. I think he should go home tonight but I know he's not going anywhere because America LOVES him.

Gideon McKinney aka Jesse Jackson -Ditto to Lin's comments. His interview reminded me of a beauty pagent contestant answering a question and capping it off with a "Kool-Aid" smile. Eeewww! Scary! Anyway, he performed really well, the song suited him and he had great energy. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the boot tonight for the very same reason that we AND Simon have an issue with -- his SMILE. Oh, and one last thing - He LOOKS 30!

Elliot Yamin - Never seen him perform until last night but the minute I saw him I KNEW he had a great voice. Want to know how? Look at him -- he's all JACKED UP! LOL (I know, I am so mean) Seriously, the judges would not have put him through otherwise. I loved his rendition and agree with Simon that he could possibly be the best guy vocally of all the seasons.

Bobby Bennett aka "A drunk/retarded Wayne Newton" - Obviously his personality got him through. Go home Bobby!

Ace Young - Yes, I agree he is a hottie! Song choice and performance -- Perfect!!! Forget Father Figure - he can be my baby's daddy!!!!! LOL

Taylor Hicks - He had a great night too but I'd like him even more if he'd stop impersonating Ray Charles.

Ok, so I'm finally done - I wouldn't mind Gideon & Bobby going home.

Juanita - you forgot to write about Bucky, Jose & Elliot!

Lin, Again you are so lucky you are with child LOL!!!
I did watch those bithces auditions and comparing what I have seen minus "opening Girl night" I can totally see that the boys are far better than the girls so Again, I will say that a guy deserves to be "The American Idol" this season...put that in your snowman hat and smoke it...

After talking to Fla about Gideon's weird smile, she & I realized Simon's comment may have hit home for him because after Simon's comment Gideon tried his best not to smile. Even Seacrest noticed and commented that his lips were quaking in an attempt to not smile. I feel bad now so I want him to stay for now. :) See I do have a heart!
