Songs from Stevie Wonder
This is what Meredith was waiting for: all the guys and girls together. Tee hee, did you guys see Paris slip? heh heh heh (yeah, I'm sick)
Tonight's genre is Stevie Wonder. I wonder how Bucky and Chris will do with this theme? I imagine Chris does well not matter what genre.
I thought it was cute how all the kids were brought to tears. That was sweet.
Ace was first with Do, I do. During his interview, he pauses, and cleans out his eye gunk, then checks it out on his finger. Gross. I agree with whoever said it (Mere? Chenita?) Ace looks better with his hat. I thought he came out screaming the song a bit. It wasn't his best performance for me, but he did a good job with the part where he does the fast runs.
Kellie Pickler is so nieve. Stevie Wonder said he thought she was from England and she's all like "REally?" Blame it on the Sun with a Southern twist. Hmmm. Its one of Stevie Wonder's more obscure songs. Maybe that was a good choice for her, that way no one will compare her twangy singing to the way he does it. I think she dressed a bit old for her tonight. Her voice was nice. smooth. Kinda a boring performance for me, tho. I agree with Paula for once, it was safe. but why does she always have to say, "but you look gorgeous" when she criticizes people? just critique and leave it be!
Elliot is next with Knocks Me off My Feet. I can't wait for the makeover episode. I still have a hard time looking at him when he sings. But I like his rendition of this song. If it wasn't for Romane I probably wouldn't have heard of half of these songs, but I copied his 4 CD set and was just playing it today! LOL I don't think it showed a ton of range, but he sang it well.
Mandisa looks pretty (oh, geeze, I sound like Paula). Ryan took her shoes off for her... man she's got some big ole shoes! Don't You Worry `Bout a Thing should suit her well, lets see. She gave it a good twist to show off her range. I like that she changed it up a bit, cuz it coulda been boring. I think she has done the best so far.
Bucky is up next singing Superstition. Oh my, hair down and all! LOL. I like the twist he brought to this so far - but then he continued and it was kinda more of the same, but I think he's ending stronger. He's another one that I want to see after the makeover episode.
Melissa is singing Lately. Is she still singing the wrong lyrics? She's kinda butchering the song. I liked it better when she got off the stool. Oh-- she DID forget the lyrics. Thats the first time for a top 12. buh-bye, `lissa.
Lisa sings Signed Sealed Delivered. She is adorable but I wasn't wowed by the performance. She is a great voice and great stage presence. but it wasn't my fave of the nite or my fave of her songs.
Kevin is up next with Part Time Lover... as if he knew what anything in the song was really about. He's gotta be a virgin! All you Grammas out there, quit voting! This one, I can't watch OR listen to. It was awful. He was like a characature of an American Idol! Thank God it ended.
Katherine sings Until You Come Back To Me in a really ugly dress. As for her performance, I went through not liking it and really liking it at the same time. She is a beautiful girl and a real pleasure to watch. Generally I really like her. Parts she seemed to be screaming but then she mixed the song up and really made it cool. I'm fencing it.
Taylor - I think this theme is right up his alley. He's gonna sing Livin' for the City. I enjoyed his performance. Its much easier to watch him sing when he just walks around and doesn't jerk his body like an epileptic. This is his genre and I think he did well.
Paris picked a song that I thought was a bit old, to me. The judges loved her. I don't really think I was paying that much attention to it, cuz it was time to check my blood. However, in the post song interview, it was annoying that she was singing her responses.
Chris ties up the show with Higher Ground. The background music is too loud, you can't really hear his voice. I think hes amazing. Every song he sings sounds like it should already be on the radio. This probably wasn't my favorite of his performances, but I think it was one of the best of the night. Not lovin the funky sideburns.

Woohoo - finally one show. Yeah I wanted them together because I don't want to watch so many freakin nights of idol! LOL
Okay - so I love Chris. I really want him to win - LOL There, that's all I have to say.
I agree with Simon - it was like 2 different shows. The first half was okay - the second half MUCH better.
Taylor was good, Paris was good. I really liked Katherine. I think she is my favorite girl. Kellie is like the next Jessica Simpson. I thought she was going to pull off her fake eyelashes - LOL
And yes - Ace looks much better with the hat on.
Ace - Wasn't blown away by his performance. And, yeah I agree he's had better hair days. It was frizzy tonight - if the stylist is doing that to his hair - he should say no thanks I'll do it myself. BTW- Did anyone catch on ET that he has a girlfriend of 2 yrs. She's this black chick that stars in a UPN show. Never heard of her or her show - but does anyone really watch UPN - LOL
Kellie - Annoying - She was one of my favs and now every interview comes off like a "Chrissy" moment (three's company). As for her performance she sucked. It was by far the worst she's done.
Elliot - I'm like you Lin, I can't watch him sing. I tend to close my eyes when he does. Still his performance didn't wow me.
Mandisa - She was the best so far, but still not blown away by anyone yet.
Lisa - pretty girl but so far she has not lived up to the judges or my expectations.
Kevin - He really needs to go tonight. Paula and Randy seem to want to keep him around because he's this "dorky, amusing kid".
Katherine - I disagree with you Lin. I actually liked her dress. I think she did a great job with the song. I was really impressed. BTW - did anyone get the feeling that Katherine was trying to get some air time and show off her personality by telling Ryan about how she broke her shoes. Like as if anyone asked or cared. I think she is trying to take lessons from her roommate Kellie Pickler.
Taylor - Loved his performance. My mother found him amusing too and agreeded with Simon that he reminds her of a drunken dad with his jerky dance movements - LOL
Paris - My mother can't stand this little girl. I agree. Paris did a great job with the song, but came off way too cocky. That attitude is not going to take her to the top 3. Yeah, and how annoying was she when she was singing her responses to Ryan. The look on Simons and Paula's faces looked like they were both in disgust.
Chris - By far the best of the night. My mother wants him to win. I just didn't like the holding on to the Mike stand for the entire song.
Overall, the 2 hour show was torturing. I just found the Stevie Wonder songs boring.
Kicked off tonight - Chicken Little
Mere - TOTALLY agree with you about watching less Idol during the week! LOL
Lin - what makeover show are you referring to? Aren't they already made up from this point on?
Juanita - it's funny how you're sorta blogging for mommy!
Ok, here are my thoughts on last night's show. When I first heard they had to sing Stevie Wonder songs, I thought 2 things: They'll really blow us away or really suck (after all it's Stevie). I don't know if I was extremely tired or wasn't familiar with the songs but I was bored for most of the show.
Ace - It's hard to start off the show but Ace tried to do his thing. Agreed with Simon, Ace's performance was not going to be the best of the night.
Kellie - I actually thought it was her best vocal performance but boring as heck. She didn't even try to put any energy into the song.
Elliot - Performed a Stevie Wonder song before so of all the contestants,I had my money on Elliot to blow everyone away. It didn't happen. I think his nerves got the best of him and was by far one of his worst performances. (Lin, like I said earlier, they seem to be already made over so I think this is the best he'll look)
Mandisa - Loved that she performed barefoot! Sang better than the first 3 and like Juanita, I was not WOWED by her performance.
Bucky - Finally, a familar song! (Although Ace's song was familiar too but Kellie & Mandisa sang these obscure songs that I could not get into). Anyway, I digress, I thought Bucky did an ok job with this song.
Melissa - Where is this girl from again? Didn't care for those thick highlights in her hair. Lin, you are so right that she reminds me of some L.I./S.I./BKLYN girl. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, she sorta reminds me of Effie! What do you think, Juanita? Anyway, I didn't notice she butchered the lyrics but I don't think she sang this song well but for some reason Simon enjoyed it. Go figure!
Lisa - I thought her performance was so AFFECTED (is that the correct word?) I loved her energy but I don't think her performance was believable. I think she wanted to appear loose and having fun with the song but when she went to scream in the middle of the song it sounded awkward.
Kevin - His constant references that he is a sex symbol is a gimmick to get people to vote for him. And why is it that Randy & Paula are constantly supporting him? They seem to always say: "you sang in tune". Are they not getting that he should go - he really is horrible.
Katherine - Agreed with the judges that it was her best performance. I think what makes her a good singer is that she makes the song her own and doesn't rely on hitting high notes - she is a natural.
Taylor - I could not stop smiling during his performance. I LOVED it! I loved his energy, his quirky dance steps and his overall performance.
Paris - OMG! In her clip, Did anyone think she looked like a long haired poodle with those extensions in her hair? I can't believe Stevie compared her to Fantasia! Not that I don't agree but I was most shocked that he KNEW of Fantasia! (It really made me think how HUGE Idol is). I think she is an excellent singer but I agree with Juanita, she comes off too cocky. I hope she loses some votes because of her annoying singing antics - LOL. Yeah, and I did notice Paula & Simon's faces!
Chris - Picked the perfect song to sing and definitely capped the night off in a good note (no pun intended). I was kinda confused though because the judges all agreed that he was original and made the song his but did he really? I've never heard of Red Hot Chili Peppers rendition of this song bnt I'm sure it'll sound similar. Atlhough it was different, I didn't care for the weird "S-shaped" sideburns.
Maybe it was the obscure song choices or I was too tired but the performances were all okay. What I do know is chicken little should go but he wont so I'm going to stick with my pick from last week -Melissa will be the first victim.
Chenita,
I completely agree with the poodle comment. I said the same thing to Mike last night. And, yes, Melissa does remind me a little of Effie - with a whole lot more make-up on.
There is no 'make-over' show, but they usually do this one episode where they take them to a beauty store like Sephora and the guys get haircuts and all.
I'm still hoping for that show and still hoping to see Elliot look better. I'm an optimist. LOL
YES! I hate chunky highlights, I think they look cheap on most women, and it served to do that on Melissa as well.
Overall the show was a big yawner. I'm glad tonight's is only 1/2 hour long.
I was sooo exhausted and mentally drained when I layed down on my bed with two pillows under my head so I wouldn't fall asleep during the most absolutely boring show ever lol - I made it through kicking and screaming lol Nah, by reading a magazine and watching the show simultaneously...Yeah Cluck,Cluck Chicken sex symbol Little has got to gooooooooooooo.. followed by Jersey girl Melissa sooo annoying she sings just like she speaks RASPYYYYY...Loved Chris' performance he's just a natural performer, Katherine another natural performer.. Love Stevie when Stevie sings his own songs...
